Over the past three years I have watched more and more people join the hottest social platform to ever hit the internet, Facebook. That saying, "everyone and their mom" has one is actually very literal. I have seen pets with their own Facebook, is that necessary? I think not. No one gives a damn about your dog checking in at a park to go run around.
Facebook is the most publicly used social platform today yet has it gone too far? I was told the other day by one of my few friends who rarely uses Facebook that his pictures were being tagged automatically by Facebook by way of facial recognition. Are you kidding Zuck? Here is a guy who seldom uses your site but your software can recognize him, and tag him without his knowing so. What is this, some sort of Patriot Act b.s. that we will be made aware of when the craze dies down? Who knows, but what I do know is that I do not want to see thousands of tagged pictures of people in backgrounds, who broke up with who or statuses fishing for sympathetic reassuring responses from other Facebooker-ers. How much drama do we hear about every day involving Facebook in some facet or another.
I am guilty of having and maintaining a FB but everyday I creep closer and closer to finally hitting delete (which I hear it is nearly impossible to do so by Zuck and his crew, but that's another story saved for another day). I find myself ushering my friends towards the simplicity of Twitter. If you have something to say you can drop a direct message, mention somebody, or let your random thoughts flow. If other people want to read it, good for them. There is no "friending" that creates superficial friendships of people who may have seen each other one and briefly made eye contact.
All I am getting at is Facebook has gone too far and utterly too personal. Back off a bit, leave some for the imagination. I am glad your favorite movie is the Big Lebowski, does that budge my everyday thoughts one bit? Absolutely not.
Live happy, live freely, go Tweet!
